The pull towards a gig economy, begun during the 2008 recession, is even stronger now as the unprecedented challenges caused by COVID-19 have pushed mission-driven organizations to rethink how they structure and staff their work. At the same time, our nation grapples with heightened awareness of long-standing but urgent systemic inequities as represented by the 'Black Lives Matter' movement.
